This style of architecture began when the Nawab of Awadh Asaf-Ud-Daulah Shifted the capital of Awadh from Faizabad to Lucknow in 1775.

It is also known as Lucknow Architecture.

Features of Awadh Architecture:
  1. The specialty of Awadh architecture is that there is no use of iron and marbles in their buildings.
  2. In its initial phase, the roofs of the building were plastered with rice bran (for thermal control).
  3. They created one of the finest arch of that time, which is reflected from Rumi Darwaza.
  4. They created  finest kind of labyrinth or maze.
    • For example - Bhul Bhulaiya of Bara Imambara, Chhota Imambara and Asafi Mosque.

Note - Bara Imambara, Lucknow is the grave of Asaf-ud-daulah. That's why it is also known as 'The building of Sorrow'.
