Sayyid Dynasty
After the invasion of Amir Timur in 1398, one of his general Khizra Khan uprooted Tughlaqs and established Sayyid Dynasty in Delhi in 1414.
Khizra Khan (1414-1421) -
- Before his departure from India, Timur appointed Khizra Khan as the governor of Multan. He captured Delhi and founded a new dynasty in 1414. However, he did not assume the title of Sultan and acted as 'Rayat-i-Ala' (caretaker).
- Coins were struck and khutba was read in the name of Timur and after his death in the name of his son Shahrukh.
- Khizra Khan was the most competent ruler of Sayyid dynasty. He tried to consolidate the Delhi Sultanate but could not do much as he died in 1421.
Mubarak Shah (1421-1433) -
- Khizra Khan was succeeded by his son Mubarak Shah.
Muhammad Shah (1434-43) -
- He was always busy acting against conspirators and gradually lost control over his nobles.
- He was succeeded by his son Alam Shah in 1445.
Alauddin Alam Shah (1443-1451) -
- He proved to be an incompetent ruler and the weakest of all Sayyid rulers.
- Alam Shah's Wazir Hamid Khan invited Bahlol Lodi to take charge of the army and after releasing that it would be difficult to continue as Sultan, Alam Shah left for Badaun.
Bahlol Lodi with the help of a few nobles took charge of the army and became the Sultan of Delhi in 1451.
